I wanted to get this portion of the board off the ground so I will start by asking who is your favorite Sci-Fi author?
Come on, you have a favorite whoever you are!
Okay, it's only fair that I start with an example to encourage you to jump in. So hear goes:
My favorite Sci-Fi author (or at least one of many of my favorites) is Larry Niven.
Larry Niven is the author and co-author of many works. The most mentionable, in my opinion, is "Ringworld."
This is one of the most highly acclaimed Sci-Fi novels of all time, with good reason in my humble opinion. The scope of the novel is vast and mind challenging to say the least. Niven's imagination is one that the reader will find to be a quest to keep up with.
The story is inthraulling! The second instalment (Ringworld Engineers) is equally captivating and the third and final (so far?) book is well, worth reading for the interest but falls short of the first two.
So if the third in the series (Ringworld Throne) didn't quite live up to the first two, why is he still a favorite?
Well, he has written the first two that really lay the foundation for what follows in the Sci-Fi genre. But that's not all!
He has written and continues to write works that will forever push the genre to it's greatest potential.
For example; the first Niven work that I encountered was "Inferno."
This was co-written with Jerry Pournelle. They also wrote "FOOTFALL" together by the way, a best seller.
"Inferno" is the one that got me hooked. This is kind of funny because it is so different from Niven's other novels. Niven has mostly dealt with hard sci-fi, stuff in space, for example, but this one is based on Dante's Inferno.
And what a ride it is!
Dante had a great story, but Niven and Pournelle took it to it's limits! It's a quick read only because you can't put it down and it introduces you to the infinate imagination of Larry Niven.
More mind expanding novels by/with Niven include "The Mote in God's Eye," "Lucifer's Hammer," "Protector," "Beowolf's Children," "The Gripping Hand" and many more!
This guy is still writing good, exciting, solid sci-fi and fantacy!
Enjoy!
